My family and friends are what motivate me. Without them, I would not have been able to pursue my dream of competing in triathlons and marathons – both before and after my cancer diagnosis. And I pray they will never have to endure what I had to.
Cancer can feel like its own marathon, with the many appointments, tests, surgeries and treatments that fill up your calendar, regardless of what else you had planned. Cancer wears you out, but keeps you running. Rather than give in to the cancer treadmill, I am determined to outrun cancer – for me, for my family, and for you.
I used to swim, bike and run for myself. Now I do it for everyone touched by cancer, and those I hope will never have to be. I cannot think of a better way to do this than by joining the Million Dollar Marathon and going Coast to Coast for Cancer.
This event is organized by Above + Beyond Cancer, a public charity whose mission is to reduce the burden of cancer across the globe. On June 21st, a team of 160 cancer survivors and supporters will embark on a 4,000-mile relay across America. One marathon at a time, the team will cross 15 states and more than 500 communities, passing the baton from the Pacific to the Atlantic.
I am honored to be one of those runners and I invite you to join me: Run – Raise – Research – Coast to Coast.
