Girls on the Run Race Highlights

Wow – what a special weekend!

On Saturday, I served as the honorary chair for the Girls on the Run race. It was huge with 4,500 girls in the race and 9,000 people overall. The energy was positive and the experience was rewarding on so many levels.  As I mentioned in my previous post (read more here), I was asked by my nieces to run with them in the race, which meant so much to me. Then, during part of the race, I ran alongside a sight-impaired girl and her father – I was so moved by their story.

Another memorable moment is that each girl celebrates their goal once crossing the finish line. In a world where so many of these girls might be told that they can’t do certain things, it is incredible for them to work hard and train for the race and then achieve their goal. They learn that they “can.”

Fox2 reported live from the race, and you can see my interview with them here.

I would like to take a moment to again thank the Girls on the Run race organizers. They did such a fantastic job of making sure the event was a success, and were all so nice.

I hope all moms had a wonderful Mother’s Day! I spent mine with my family, and it was lovely.
