Girls on the Run

Earlier this year I was asked to serve as the honorary race chair for the upcoming Girls on the Run race happening May 10 at Soldiers’ Memorial in downtown St. Louis. It’s an honor to lend my voice to this wonderful organization that empowers young girls. What is even more exciting is my nieces (they are twins) are participating in the race and have asked me to run with them.

For those of you not familiar with the organization, Girls on the Run (GOTR) is a program for middle school and grade school girls that combines self-esteem boosting lessons and uplifting workouts with the goal of developing the girls physically, mentally, emotionally and socially. The girls in the program train and then race in a 5k, and they also participate in a service project each season. The girls get a sense of achievement while building their self-esteem and positive self-image.

Nearly 8,000 runners are expected to participate, 3,700 are girls who are in the GOTR program. It should be a great, family-friendly event. If you’d like to register or learn more about the organization, visit:
