This weekend I will be supporting a friend, Steve Smith, or as his training buddies call him Steve-O, during the First Annual Barron Lake Triathlon benefiting the Racing For Steve-O Foundation.
In 2012, Steve-O was diagnosed with a brain tumor, a glioblastoma. His competitive and caring spirit has led to the start of his foundation, the Racing For Steve-O Foundation. The vision for the foundation is to help Michiana (his hometown) children have the opportunity to be involved in sports and athletics regardless of their physical, mental and financial barriers. Several organizations have already benefited from the foundation, and their future goal is to provide scholarships.
If you’d like to support the race and the Foundation, here’s a link to my page: www.racingforsteveo.org/terigriege.
I met Steve-O while training and participating in the Ironman, and he is a 12-time Ironman competitor. He is one of the most decorated amateur triathletes of all time with over 250 triathlons completed. I often travel to Florida, where he also resides, and consider him a great friend. Here’s a fun story about Steve and I – we both love ice cream and the bigger the sundae the better. These photos say it all:
